Preview of WebOS on the upcoming Palm Pre
I’ve always liked Palm operating systems. They’re straight forward, neat, clean, and user-friendly. Problem is, they’ve become outdated. Not just in graphics and UI (user interface), but in applications and functionality, fields where Blackberries and iPhones take top bid.
So Palm has stepped things up with a new operating system, WebOS, and a new phone called the Pre to release it on. Here’s a video. Pay attention to the Desi guy. Yeeuh, represent!
Also Stuff.tv’s “Is The Palm Pre An iPhone Killer?” video:
What I like about WebOS are its multitasking features (the cards desktop feature), its synergy features (combining Email, IM, Gmail, Facebook, SMS, etc. all into one), slick all-in-one calendar app, and the QWERTY keyboard.
All of this makes WebOS and the Pre something to keep Palm in the mix with all this smartphone insanity that’s out there lately. And from the great reviews of WebOS previewers so far, Palm definitely has given Apple some things to learn, especially as the Pre is getting a hyped up release.
As for me, I’m on my new Palm Centro
. Yeah, yeah, it’s an old phone now, I know. But for a free hook up from a good friend who works for Verizon, it doesn’t get any better, alhumdulillah. Plus I’m trying out TealOS, a WebOS emulator for older Palm devices.
While this may get me by for now, I can see myself on a Palm with WebOS in the future inshaAllah. There’s even rumors of a new Centro coming out with WebOS and all touch-screen. The Pre is Sprint-exclusive for only 90 days and as is the usual with most phones, it’ll eventually make its way over to VZW.
Then I can get one two years after everyone has their 5th generation iPhones, Blackberry brain chips, and one-way tickets to Mars.

impressive but they didn’t come up with “deck of cards” – take a look at safari on the iPhone OS. their new designer is the previous lead designer of the iPhone OS.

Nice article on the Palm Pre. Thanks for the video links.
I’d love to have it when it comes out but I’m on the Sprint SERO plan and I don’t think they’ll allow people on my SERO plan to have a Palm Pre
[that's what I've heard till now]

@asif. I read about how Palm has hired a couple of former Apple dudes. Interesting.
@IbnBattuta. Wow, if that’s true, then looks like Sprint is finally fighting back against SERO bandwagoners. I wonder if actual Sprint employees get to bypass that. That’s if they actually want the Pre.
