Have You Joined The Twitter Revolution?
Some time last year, I noticed all the cool dudes in the blogospheres were using Twitter, one of the latest growing internet fads. Since Twitter works similar to Facebook status updates, I saw bloggers implementing their “Tweets,” the name for a Twitter feed of updates, right into their sidebars. After doing some research into Twitter, I found to really like the idea and signed up for it myself, integrating it onto the sidebar of my own blog like you see here.
Two months into 2009, I noticed that Twitter has officially gone mainstream now. Why’s that?
Well, first off, because it’s gotten popular and commercial exposure for a while now. The fact that corporations and the likes of CNN have their own Twitters is something interesting. In other words, if you can read an article in Time magazine about what Twitter is, chances are it’s time to add it to the mainstream list.
Secondly, a whole wave of my Muslim friends have all of a sudden joined. When Muslims all get onto something, then you know it’s big. Not just that, but I can see it benefitting us and have already seen some initiatives to use it for da’wah purposes.
Take Colleyville Masjid, for example. One of my good friends active there set up a Twitter for a newly launched project of his masjid in Colleyville, TX. I can see uses such as these to help bring a more interactive and personal feel to da’wah projects and programs, lessening the distances between popular culture and Islamic cultivation.
Personally, I have Twitter set up through my mobile phone, and update it simultaneously with my Facebook status. I set it up that way because I wanted to use Twitter, but not everyone was on it yet, and figured I could also update some people about “what I’m up to” on the land of Facebook, too.
With all that said, still wondering or confused about what Twitter is? Just check out this 2 minute video from CommonCraft about what it is and how it works.

Seriously, in the past week I’ve had more people start following me than during the entire course of my subscription to Twitter.
Interestingly, of all the people I follow, only two are girls. Girls haven’t caught on quite as quickly… I think that’s the general trend with most “technological and internet advancements”
I only joined ‘cuz Saqib did.
