Android – Google’s New OS On Their New Phone

October 23rd, 2008  Posted in Computers

I don’t need a smartphone. I really don’t. But when they come around this good, it’s definitely an attractive thought. Especially this here G1 phone, from Google, built on their new Android OS.

Again, most of the features I really don’t need. I’ve survived just fine for the past two years with basic phone calls and SMS text messaging while seemingly everyone upgraded to smartphones. But if I would ever go big time phone, like pay over $200 type ordeal, I think I’d go with an Android built one like this G1. This thing turns phones an all-in-one Pentium 4 computer. I mean 3D rendered graphics in gaming? Nuts. Other features on this, like the Google Street Maps trick, are really cool, too.

Khana Korner #005 – Gyro and Steak Pizzas with Trader Joe’s Pizza Dough

October 15th, 2008  Posted in Khana Korner

Saturday night we attended YM’s event Unleashed: Shaytan’s Vendetta with my brother in law and his wife. It was a nice program, though just a little unorganized! Afterward, we went to Hot ‘N Spicy (former known as Amina’s).

While taking home leftovers from an order of gyros (like any dhabīḥa place that serves gyros in Chicagoland, the amount of gyros my wife got with her order were enough for two sandwiches), my wife mentioned making homemade pizza on Monday night with the extra meat. Great idea, I thought, but Monday night my parents wanted to BBQ. Did this get in the way of pizza? Not at all; she just pushed pizza plans to Tuesday night while I made one extra steak, wrapped it up in aluminum foil, and stuck it in the fridge.

My wife got refrigerated pizza dough from Trader Joe’s, some pizza sauce and mushrooms from Jewel, and busted out the stored away bell peppers, onions, and ginormous Kirkland bag of mozzarella cheese from Costco.

Tribute To and Story of Imam Siraj Wahaj

October 10th, 2008  Posted in Dawah, Video

I love Imam Siraj Wahaj. He’s someone that we need more of, both in the sense that I want more of him as a person, and we need more like him. Seriously, if you’re looking for some sort of Eman boosting in your life, download some Imam Siraj speeches and lectures from either aswatalislam.net or IslamWay Radio, or watch some of his videos on YouTube.

He is, by definition, an Imam for the people. He’s someone who helps guide the people, and someone who you’d want to go to, and not because of some sort of ranking, but because of his character. MashaAllah, may Allah increase him in this world and the next, and give us more like him for years to come.

But enough from me, check out this video. It was a major event at AlMaghrib Institute’s IlmFest 2008 in New York attended by over 900 people. First, AlMaghrib instructors Muhammad Alshareef, Yasir Qadhi, and Mohammed Faqih all give a tribute to our Imam, followed by a speech by himself on his “story”. The tribute video is not due to his death or anything, Imam Siraj is still very well alive, alhumdulillah!

This is one of many great videos from http://www.ilmcast.com. Check ‘em out and subscribe to their Podcast if you have an iPod!
