Shopping

We bought gifts for our family members. Tons of different stores. What was really nice was “The Village“, a european looking old village inside downtown and tons and tons of shops. Lots of shops there.

Things to do in Gatlinburg

We did a lot of things. Most of them cost money, except one. Sales tax is HIGH in the area, like 11%.

Aquarium of the Smokies: Awesome aquarium, better than the one I’ve been to in Chicago. It’s $22 a person.

Our Trip To Gatlinburg, TN – pt. 1 of 3

My wife and I went on our first trip together to the Smoky Mountains. The city and prime spot of interest: Gatlingburg, TN. We decided to forego plans to hit up Cali or the southeastern coast and go straight south to Tennessee and alhumdulillah we really enjoyed it and felt it was worth it. Here’s why.

Choosing the Smoky Mountains

The reason why I chose this place was for many reasons. One, it was less pricey than a trip to Hawaii or the Bahamas. Two, it’s a nice change from the cliche honeymoon trip. And three, a few close friends who went there recommended it because there was SO much to do there.

The Drive Down

We drove down from Chicago and drove back to Michigan. The drive down south from Chicago through I-65 in Indiana and into Kentucky and Tennessee was awesome.

Where Do You Sit? A Real Life Gender Interaction Scenario

August 11th, 2008  Posted in Community

chicago_el.jpgAll aboard! You’re a happeningly hip young practicing Muslim attending the local university. After staying for an unnecessarily long MSA Exec Board meeting on campus, you are forced to take the train home during rush hour. You really want to get home in time for dinner, so you hurry to the station and barely squeeze into one of the cars in time for the express ride home.

As you make your way to find a seat, you notice two, and only two open seats. However, next to each of the spots are two young outrageously attractive passengers of the opposite gender the likes of super models; one non-Muslim and the other a practicing Muslim from your MSA, community, and masjid. You’re dead tired from the day and standing is not an option on this 45 minute ride. As the train leaves, the question emerges: where do you sit?
