Looking for Cheap Wii or General AV Accessories? Check Out Monoprice

Daddy brought home a Nintendo Wii from work and we were glad he was able to get a hold of one. As of this post’s date, April 2008, they’re still hard to get a hold of. But, alhumdulillah, one of Daddy’s fellow employee’s daughter works at Target and hooked it up (with a 10% discount, too).

Anywho, if you know me, I’m a stickler for audio/video. So before buying any game, controller, or even the internet browser, I had to get my hands on component cables for the Wii, much to Waasiq’s dismay.

Component cables are high quality video cables used for high quality video feeds. You know how for standard A/V cables you have one for video (yellow) and two for audio (white and red)? Well with component cables, you have three cables for video, giving you much higher quality.

So I figured component cables will cost around $40, and that’s something I’m down to pay for, even if we only have Wii Sports and one controller (geeks’ priorities, sorry!).

But before I ran to the closest Best Buy, I decided to ask none other than my video game shaykh, my cousin Saud, for the best deals on cables. Lo and behold, Saudu Bhaiya hooked up the best website for cables I have ever seen: Monoprice.com

The prices were so low, I had to Email him back asking if these guys were forreal. “Yeah they are,” he replied. “I get all my speaker cables from them. They are basically like monster brand without the branding.”

In fact, the price was SO cheap, Waasiq was able to convince me to buy a Wii charger unit that was also a steal of a bargain. Both the cables and the chargers got great reviews, and even better was that the charger charged directly via the USB ports on the Wii (don’t have to use up the plugs on the wall or on a surge protector).

Even more better was that its battery packs were usable in our wireless Wavebird controllers for the Gamecube which work with the Wii. So I decided to pick up two, and while we may not have four Wiimotes yet, we do have wireless Gamecube controllers that could use the batteries. Nintendo is just seriously awesome. 8)

So! Here’s the price comparison and savings figures from using Monoprice.com. We’ll use prices from Bestbuy.com buying similar products.

Item Monoprice Best Buy Savings
Component Cables $4.80 $34.99 86% off
Dual Charging Dock with Battery Packs $13.23 $29.99 56% off
Dual Charging Dock with Battery Packs $13.23 $29.99 56% off
TOTAL $31.26 $94.97 67% off

What a bargain, alhumdulillah! I ended up paying less than 1/3rd the price for some solid accessories. Retailers always try to bank off of selling accessories, and saving this much was a great feeling. Major hat-tip to Saudu Bhaiya on this one. :)

So if you need to buy cheap Wii accessories, hit up Monoprice.com. They also have all sorts of cables, switches, networking parts, USB & Firewire stuff, and even ink and toner refills for cheap.

Now we just need to get some controllers and something else…

omg Brawl!

  7. If there was tetris for Wii, I’d be impressed.

Until then I only see it as a way for Amina and Yasu to totally own me at tennis– which I could always do without.
